The student council of St Malachy’s BNS, Edenmore was re-established in 2019 to help promote school spirit and leadership among our pupils.

The pupils who participate in all levels of the student council will maintain a high standard of personal conduct. Council members will demonstrate leadership qualities by serving as good examples of behaviour through their words and actions.

All student council members will be expected to participate in approved activities, which will serve to enhance the quality of both the physical and behavioural environment of the school.

The constitution of the student council is as follows:

  • One principal teacher of the school
  • One teacher of the school
  • One / Two students from each class from 2nd to 6th class

Within this there will be committee roles – president, secretary, others to be agreed.

The student council members are elected by their classmates.

The election is by secret ballot – each class member is given a vote.

The students are the elected delegates for their class.

The student council report to electors in class and at school assembly.
