About Our School
Big Rooms, Bright Futures.
At St. Malachy’s BNS, we are fortunate to have spacious and well-lit classrooms. With class sizes below the national average, you can be confident that your child will receive ample teacher attention throughout the day. Research has shown that ‘smaller classes generally lead to higher test scores for students—especially in earlier grades and for students from disadvantaged backgrounds’
Exciting Teaching Methodologies
St. Malachy’s BNS adheres to cutting-edge methodologies across the curriculum, incorporating the latest approaches, such as the New Primary Language Curriculum and the New Maths Curriculum. Our commitment to literacy is demonstrated through the comprehensive implementation of programs such as First Steps, Bua na Cainte and Handwriting Without Tears. Our staff engage enthusiastically with CPD and we are a Droichead School that nutures and supports the development of Newly Qualified Teachers. (NQTs)
Parental Involvement
Adreinne Nolan, our dedicated ‘Home School Community Liaison Officer,’ in partnership with our class teachers, orchestrates numerous opportunities for parents to engage with their child’s learning. From enjoyable activities like Maths, Literacy, and Science for Fun, to enriching courses in Flower Arranging, Jewellery Making, Yoga, and Cooking, there are many ways for parents to participate. And let’s not forget our vibrant Parent’s Committee who work so hard all year round to support and help to fund the many exciting initiatives and flagship events the school delivers each year. Ms. Nolan also hosts regular Parent Support Group (PSG) Meetings for the parents of children with additional needs.
Awesome Aistear
Aistear is all about learning through play, and it’s at the heart of our Infant Cycle curriculum here at St. Malachy’s BNS. The aim of aistear is to help every child to grow and develop as a competent, confident learner through the medium of play.
Learning With Tech
In this digital age, it’s so important that children learn to safely use all kinds of technology. Our staff integrate iPads, interactive whiteboards and other kinds of ICT into their lessons to give your child a head start in digital learning.
Student Council
The Student Council (SC) at St. Malachy’s BNS provides a representative structure through which students can debate issues of concern and undertake initiatives of benefit to the school and the wider community. Students have a voice and a contribution to make to their school. Our Student Council are elected by their peers and meet once a week. The meetings are chaired by a member of staff who ensures that their requests are heard and when sanctioned, are acted upon. To date the children have successfully lobbied for new playground equipment, additional school resources, more educational trips as well as ‘buddy’ learning opportunities. The SC also welcome visitors to our school and organise community clean ups. The are leading the way and setting a brilliant example of effective ‘Active Citizenship’ to all in our school community.
Sporting All-Stars
St. Malachy’s BNS has a proud tradition of sports that stretches back through many generations. Our staff offer after-school coaching in Gaelic Football, Hurling, Athletics and Soccer, and we collaborate with multiple external agencies and clubs. These include our local GAA club St. Monica’s, Edenmore Boxing Club, St. Malachy’s FC, Ballymun Swimming Pool, Dublin City Council Sports, the FAI, the Fingal League and Cumann Na mBunscol, Ath Cliath.
Green, Active, Amber School
We are incredibly proud to be one of very few schools across the country who have earned SEVEN Green Schools Flags. This wonderful achievement has taken an immense amount of work by multiple Green School Committees over the years. We also have our Active Schools Flag our Pieta Amber Flag and our Cineáltas Flag flying proudly outside our school.
Beyond the Curriculum
At St. Malachy’s BNS, we strive to provide a holistic educational experience beyond regular school hours. Our current after-school offerings include a dedicated Homework Club, ensuring that students receive additional support where needed. For those with a passion for sports, our coaching sessions offer an opportunity to develop athletic skills and teamwork. Furthermore, our modern language clubs foster an appreciation for linguistic diversity. To accommodate busy mornings, we extend a warm welcome to all for our Breakfast Club each day. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we are actively exploring additional before/after-school options in collaboration with local community operators, expanding the range of opportunities available to our students and their families.
